How Do You Compare Home & Auto Insurance Quotes
in Bloomfield Hills, MI?

⚡ Comparing Bloomfield Hills Quotes in 60 Seconds

To compare home and auto insurance quotes in Bloomfield Hills, MI, give every company one household specification: the same bodily injury limits on every car, at least $300,000 of home liability, a rebuild-cost dwelling limit and the right municipality, city or township. Then add the umbrella and compare full-year totals, bundled and split. As of October 2026, MoneyGeek's Michigan study shows bundle discounts of 5% to 22%, and Kin found 22% of non-bundlers who tried it saved nothing.

Comparing home and auto insurance quotes in Bloomfield Hills gets harder with every car in the driveway. A household with three or four vehicles, a teenage driver and a house worth close to a million dollars can collect quotes that match on page one and differ underneath: one car signed down to lower limits, home liability left at $100,000, or a dwelling figure copied from the sale price. Any of those leaves an umbrella with a weak floor.

Why Should a Bloomfield Hills Quote Comparison Start With the Umbrella?

Because the umbrella insurer sets minimum auto and home liability limits underneath it, and a quote priced below those minimums can't be compared with one priced at or above them.

An umbrella pays only after your auto or home liability runs out. NerdWallet's April 16, 2026 umbrella guide says carriers typically require about $250,000/$500,000 of auto liability, or a $500,000 combined single limit, plus $300,000 of home liability. Source: NerdWallet.

Michigan's default helps. Under MCL 500.3009, bodily injury liability is $250,000 per person and $500,000 per accident unless you sign a state form choosing less, down to a 50/100 floor. The default usually clears the typical auto requirement, unless someone signed it away on one of your cars.

The home side is where sample quotes fall short. LendingTree's Michigan profile and the home half of Insurance.com's Michigan bundle sample both assume $100,000 of home liability, a third of the typical umbrella floor.

For scale, an older industry study by RHSB and ACE, cited by Insurify (page last updated August 2, 2024), put $1 million of coverage at about $383 a year for one home and two cars (Insurify); current Michigan pricing comes from a quote. Our Michigan umbrella coverage guide explains how the layers stack.

How Do You Compare Bloomfield Hills Home and Auto Quotes Step by Step?

Pin down the property's municipality, collect every declarations page, choose the umbrella limit, write one auto and one home specification, then price a bundle, a split and the umbrella over each.

  1. 1

Confirm which municipality the house is in

Check your property tax bill for city or township, and give every insurer that answer.

  2. 2

Collect every declarations page, umbrella included

Gather auto, home and umbrella declarations pages, valuables appraisals and every renewal date.

  3. 3

Pick the umbrella limit, then the limits under it

Decide the umbrella amount, then put its required auto and home liability minimums into every request.

  4. 4

Write one specification for every vehicle

Use identical bodily injury, UM/UIM, PIP, deductibles and mini-tort on each car, with the same driver assignments.

  5. 5

Write one specification for the house

Use one rebuild-cost dwelling limit, replacement-cost option, ordinance-or-law choice, sewer backup limit and valuables schedule.

  6. 6

Price a bundle, a split and the umbrella over each

Get a one-company total and the best two-company total, each with its umbrella premium, for a full year.

  7. 7

Start every new policy on the same day

Match each new start date to the old end date so no layer lapses, and tell your lender if escrow pays.

💡 Terry's Tip

Send your umbrella declarations page too. It usually lists the underlying limits your umbrella insurer requires, which sets the floor for every quote.

Does a Bloomfield Hills Mailing Address Put You in the City?

Usually not: most households with a Bloomfield Hills address live in Bloomfield Township, and insurers rate where the property actually sits, so tell each company which municipality you're in.

The City of Bloomfield Hills covers about five square miles and counted 4,460 residents in 2020 (Wikipedia). The township's own comparison page counts about 44,000 people on 26 square miles and calls the two "distinct, separate municipalities" (Bloomfield Township).

Postal addresses blur that line. ZIP codes 48301, 48302 and 48304 all default to the name "Bloomfield Hills," with Bloomfield Township as an accepted alias, and together held about 49,600 people in 2020.

11×
The three "Bloomfield Hills" ZIP codes hold roughly eleven times the city's population, per 2020 counts compiled by zip-codes.com.

Why a quote cares: Michigan bars auto rating by "the postal zone in which the insured resides" but lets insurers group risks by territory (MCL 500.2111), and territory follows the real location. The city also runs a combined Department of Public Safety (City of Bloomfield Hills), while the township fields separate police, fire and EMS.

Values split as well: $604,800 median in the township per Census QuickFacts, and $947,900 in the city per Data USA's secondary summary of 2024 ACS data. Neither is a rebuild cost. For premium ranges, see what a high-value Bloomfield Hills house costs to insure.

🚨 One House, Two Answers

If an online form filled in "City of Bloomfield Hills" from your ZIP while an agent entered Bloomfield Township, the two quotes priced different territories. Fix that before comparing a dollar.

What Has to Match on Every Car in a Multi-Vehicle Household?

The same liability and UM/UIM limits, PIP level, deductibles, mini-tort choice and driver-to-car assignments on each vehicle, because one mismatched car can make a quote look cheaper than it is.

Start with PIP. Michigan offers several PIP medical levels under MCL 500.3107c, plus an opt-out under 500.3107d and a $250,000 option with exclusions under 500.3109a. The MCCA fee follows that choice per vehicle: $84 with unlimited PIP and $19 otherwise, July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027 (Source: AAIS). On four cars that's $336 versus $76 a year, by our arithmetic.

Property protection insurance covers damage your car does to others' property in Michigan, up to $1 million per accident (MCL 500.3121). Optional mini-tort coverage pays up to $3,000 another driver can recover from you for vehicle damage when you're mostly at fault (MCL 500.3135). Include it or skip it uniformly.

List every household driver, including a teenager or college student, on every quote, assigned to the same car. Match comprehensive deductibles too: Oakland County logged 2,024 deer-involved crashes in 2024, second only to Kent County (Michigan Traffic Crash Facts).

⚠️ Cheaper for a Reason

When one Bloomfield Hills quote lands well under the rest, look for a car at 50/100 liability, a lower UM/UIM limit, a different PIP level or no mini-tort. Each trims the premium, and the first can fail an umbrella's minimums.

For scale, InsuranceQuotes.com priced Bloomfield Hills full coverage at $341 a month for one 40-year-old driver at 100/300/100, rates as of August 31, 2026 (InsuranceQuotes.com). Vehicle-by-vehicle choices are in our Bloomfield Hills car coverage guide.

What Should Match on a High-Value Bloomfield Hills Home Quote?

One rebuild-cost dwelling limit, the same replacement-cost option, ordinance-or-law coverage, storm deductible, sewer backup limit and personal liability, since every insurer fills these in its own way.

The Insurance Information Institute notes that "the land is not factored into rebuilding estimates," that extended replacement cost can pay 5% to 25% above the dwelling limit, and that guaranteed replacement cost pays whatever the rebuild takes (III). Houses at this level are often written by high-value or "private client" insurers such as Chubb or PURE. We'd look at what's available through our appointments and Kraft Lake; we don't claim to place any specific private-client carrier.

Water is the quiet split. DIFS says sewer backup is "not automatically covered" (DIFS), and Bloomfield Township ties local flooding to the Rouge River watershed (township). Match the backup limit in dollars, and price flood separately.

What Should a Multi-Car Bloomfield Hills Household Gather Before Quoting?

Every declarations page including the umbrella, details for each car and driver, the house's construction history, valuables appraisals, PIP health-coverage facts and recent claims.

The city's median year built is 1972, with about a quarter of homes predating 1960, per a Census-based compilation from Point2Homes. For valuables, Policygenius (March 25, 2024) says standard policies often cap jewelry theft near $1,500; scheduling covers listed items more broadly (Policygenius).

How Do the Woodward Closure and Telegraph Detour Affect Bloomfield Hills Drivers?

Not through any surcharge, since insurers price territory, drivers and vehicles, but a fall 2027 detour onto Telegraph reshapes daily routes, so report mileage honestly and choose deductibles deliberately.

MDOT plans to close Woodward Avenue between Long Lake Road and Hickory Grove Road for about three months after the 2027 Woodward Dream Cruise. The $5 million job replaces a 97-year-old culvert over the Stoney Croft Drain, and traffic detours to Telegraph Road. Sources: city notice; WXYZ, June 3, 2026.

A Michigan Auto Law compilation of Michigan State Police data, published September 2026, ranked Telegraph Road at Maple Road in Bloomfield Township fourth in Oakland County, with 83 crashes in 2025 (Michigan Auto Law). That corner sits on the detour. Inside the city, 113 of 229 crashes in 2024 were on state routes such as Woodward (Michigan Traffic Crash Facts).

On the quote, give every company the same commute and annual mileage for each car, and update them if fall 2027 changes who drives where.

Which Local Details Should Every Bloomfield Hills Quote Describe the Same Way?

Should One Company Insure Everything, or Should the Home and Cars Split?

Price both ways: published Michigan bundle discounts run 5% to 22% by carrier, none measured in Bloomfield Hills, and a big discount on a high base price can still lose to two separate companies.

No bundle study we found names Bloomfield Hills, including Insurance.com's April 20, 2026 Michigan page. MoneyGeek's Michigan study, updated May 7, 2026, priced 1,600 quotes across 16 ZIP codes for a 40-year-old with a 2021 Camry, 50/100 liability and a $250,000 home (Source: MoneyGeek). Farmers' discount was 18%, saving $1,025 on a $4,682 bundle; Progressive's was 5%, saving $193 on $3,778. The smaller discount produced the lower total.

Carrier wording stays general: Farmers says bundling "could save you up to 10% off both, with more potential savings for bundling multiple cars on your policy" (Farmers), and Progressive cites "an average of 5% on auto in most states" (Progressive).

In a survey Kin published January 26, 2026, 22% of homeowners who don't bundle said they had tried it and saved nothing (Kin). Kin sells home insurance, so weigh its interest.

A split wins when the house and the cars each fit a different company best, such as a home suited to a private-client insurer. You lose the multi-policy discount and must confirm the umbrella insurer will sit over another company's policies.

What Changed for Bloomfield Hills Home and Auto Quotes in 2026?

The MCCA fee reset on July 1, aerial roof imagery now runs under a DIFS bulletin, storm losses stayed heavy, and MDOT scheduled the Woodward closure for after the 2027 Dream Cruise.

What Do Bloomfield Hills Households Ask About Comparing Home and Auto Quotes?

Their questions cover matching limits across several cars, the township address question, splitting carriers under one umbrella, the Woodward detour and working with an agent from Battle Creek.

Should every car in a Bloomfield Hills household carry the same liability limits on a quote?

Yes, for a fair comparison, and an umbrella usually demands it too. NerdWallet's April 2026 umbrella guide says insurers typically want about $250,000/$500,000 of auto liability underneath, which matches Michigan's default under MCL 500.3009. If one car on one quote was signed down toward the 50/100 floor, that quote is cheaper partly because it covers less, and it may not qualify for the umbrella at all.

Check each vehicle line, including an older car kept for a teenager. Match uninsured and underinsured motorist limits the same way.

My address says Bloomfield Hills, but I pay taxes to Bloomfield Township. Which goes on the quote?

The township, because that's where the property actually sits. ZIP codes 48301, 48302 and 48304 default to the Bloomfield Hills name in the postal system, but most of the roughly 49,600 people living in them are in Bloomfield Township, a separate municipality from the city of about 4,400. Michigan insurers rate by territory, and state law bars rating by postal zone.

Your property tax bill shows which municipality you're in. Give that answer to every company, including any online form that guesses from the ZIP.

Can my Bloomfield Hills home and cars be with different companies under one umbrella?

Often, but confirm it with the umbrella insurer first. An umbrella insurer reviews the policies underneath and sets minimum limits on them; NerdWallet cites about 250/500 on auto and $300,000 on home as typical. Umbrella insurers also set their own rules about which underlying companies they will accept, so a split can change where the umbrella goes or what it costs.

Ask each umbrella insurer two questions before switching: what underlying limits it requires, and whether it will sit over another company's auto or home policy.

Will the 2027 Woodward closure raise car insurance quotes in Bloomfield Hills?

Not directly. Michigan insurers price by territory, driver and vehicle, not by a temporary detour. MDOT plans to close Woodward between Long Lake and Hickory Grove for about three months after the 2027 Dream Cruise to replace a 97-year-old culvert, sending traffic to Telegraph Road.

The indirect effect is exposure. Telegraph at Maple ranked fourth in Oakland County with 83 crashes in 2025, in a law-firm compilation of State Police data. A detour fender bender can affect renewal pricing like any claim, so keep collision deductibles and mini-tort identical across quotes.

Can Terry Smith Agency compare quotes for a Bloomfield Hills household without an Oakland County office?

Yes. Terry Smith is a licensed Michigan agent based in Battle Creek, roughly two hours (about 1¾ to 2¼ hours) west of Bloomfield Hills, and we work with Oakland County households by phone and video. A multi-car comparison runs on declarations pages and accurate details, not a storefront.

Call (269) 404-4049 or send your auto, home and umbrella declarations pages. We'll return a bundle and a split on the same specification, flag anything below your umbrella's minimums, and tell you plainly if your current setup is the better deal.

What's the Bottom Line on Comparing Bloomfield Hills Home and Auto Quotes?

Build the comparison from the umbrella down, give every insurer the same municipality and the same limits on each car and the house, and judge bundles and splits by full-year totals.

Once limits, address and paperwork match, the remaining price gaps are real. Request your Bloomfield Hills quote comparison and we'll set it against your current coverage. Farther north, see our Rochester Hills comparison guide.

These short answers cover the MCCA charge, sewer backups, affinity discounts and lapses while switching.

Should the MCCA charge differ between my Bloomfield Hills quotes? No. The Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association sets it per vehicle by PIP choice: $84 with unlimited and $19 with any other level for policies starting July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027. If two quotes show different MCCA totals, they priced different PIP levels or a different number of cars.

Who pays when a municipal sewer backs up into my basement? Your policy pays only if it carries a backup endorsement, since DIFS says backup isn't automatic. A claim against the city or township is separate: Michigan's PA 222 requires written notice to the municipality within 45 days of discovering the damage (Ottawa County summary). File both promptly.

Can a Bloomfield Hills household get an affinity discount? Possibly. Farmers offers affinity discounts for eligible professions, such as teachers, nurses, first responders and engineers, confirmed when we quote. Mention each adult's occupation and employer to us up front so every quote you compare reflects the discounts your household actually qualifies for.

What happens if a policy lapses while I switch? Driving uninsured in Michigan can bring a $200 to $500 fine, up to a year in jail, or both, under MCL 500.3102. A gap under an umbrella can also leave it without the underlying coverage it expects. Start each new policy the day the old one ends.
